What is Cryptonite
Details
Cryptonite is a centralized fraud prevention system, which allows it's members to add blocked IP addresses and users to the list of blocked users. This will then allow other members of Cryptonite to block these same users from accessing their services as well.
Think of this as a ban list between various crypto-services, where everyone contributes to the security of all.
How will Cryptonite benefit my service
As all the members are able to contrabute to the central ban-list, when one member blocks a fraudulent user they are in fact protecting every other member from this same user. For a more in-depth look at the benefits of Cryptonite please see our Features section.

How it works What are the benefitsHow it works
When a connection is made to your service, you are able to look up the user's IP address, BTC address, and E-mail address against the central database.
By doing this you are able to see if the user has been previously blocked before either by yourself or by another member of Cryptonite.
This lookup can be preformed at any point that you wish, as it is done via an API call. This allows you to block a user as they access your service or only when they attempt to sign in.
What are the benefits
The benefits of a centralized database is that all the members that contribute to the database all in turn help protect one another from fraud.
Even if you have not had a case of fraud, you will still be protected from fraud as others that may have been a victim of fraud will have added their attackers to the database, this will keep you from also becoming a victim.
Centralizing a fraud database allows teams to enjoy a variety of benefits – including automation, more easily identifiable insights, and a clearer path to ROI.
Since research suggests that a great deal of time is spent by fraud departments is manual investigation, the ability to query a central database automatically will drastically reduce the amount of manual intervention that a fraud department is required to do.
This in turn frees up additional resources that could be spent on other aspects of business.
Cryptonite is also able to check if the user connecting is connecting via a Proxy Connection or with a Tor Network client. Even though Tor is used for anonymity online, it is also not always used for just personal security.
We are not able to expose the actual IP of the user via Tor, however we are able to detect the presense of a Tor client.

Cryptonite was created to add a new layer of fraud prevention to Bitcoin exchanges and other related services.

What are Proxy Connections?
A proxy is another computer that forwards traffic to a client. By connecting through a proxy, your computer sends your requests to the proxy server, which after processing your request, returns the data that you requested.
This is used to both filter traffic as well access data which is not usually avalible to your region, as the end service only see's the proxy server connecting and not the user.
How to implement the API
Please see our API Documentation for the usage and implementation of the API.
